This is my sewing room. The 'before' shot. I once worked with a woman who did a PHD and her thesis was on "the psychological moment". That is the moment when it is time to face something. The stars come into alignment, the energy is up, it's time to act.
I really feel energised to get this room sorted. I can never find what I'm looking for. Looking for anything means delving through a lot of mess. I can't use my little free time effectively because the visual clutter wears me out before I've even begun. But I really feel ready to tackle this. The psychological moment has arrived.
Oddly enough I have hit the same psychological moment re. my study. Let me know how your sewing room goes and then you can give me some helpful tips.
ReplyDeleteheres one tip that worked really well at Dads place. get a skip in and then set to and fill it up. Pretend you have only one hour to do the job. Then you just biff and chuck. Works a treat. Actually too well because I threw out Dad's clothes and ross home rang and left a very reproachful message on the answerphone asking why hadn't Dad been brought in with any clothes and could some be delivered asap. Somehow I thought you only wore pyjamas in hospital but evidently not. All op shops closed on account of the public holidays so the warehouse has been the next best thing ( thinking of Dad's frugality) and I managed to get some actually very nice shirts, shorts and trousers. They will be fresh, cool and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteWarehouse on Boxing Day deserves a medal in its own right Marg. Can't help noting (cleaning being my thing) that in fact I believe it was get 5 dumpsters in and fill them up and do about 5 van loads as well. And that really did work a treat. It must be the impending New Year but I too am about to tackle the downside of creativity which seems to be a life full of debris and possibilities...

ReplyDeleteAnd as for visual clutter, ugh. I hear you. Sometimes I sort of turn on my eyeballs (eyebulbs, as my 6 y.o. said once) in a different way, like high beams, and all of a sudden I can see the random and assorted items that make their way to odd places (turkey baster under the couch?!), etc.
And I love the feeling of clutter-free workspace! It's like the first day of school.
