Burda 10-2008-107 aka "ugly fabric entry # 2"

We are good to go with skirt. Sneak preview here, with zippers on pockets undone to prove that they are fully functioning pockets behind and centre front zipper slipped up to show lolly pink lining. Disclaimer: centre front zipper has been pulled high for lining viewing purposes only and should be worn zipped down, unless you are Julia Roberts having a pretty woman moment.

Today I purchased the fabric for the blouson jacket. It is a beautiful coffee coloured bonded merino wool. It has 2 sides, the merino wool side is latte, the bonded back is espresso. I'm thinking of going espresso side.

So that's my project for this week, then I will put the whole look together for my official entry shot.

Out of curiosity, does anyone actually like this fabric?

  1. I don't mind it. It's a bit full on, so I'd cut it into bands and use as a trim on black. I'm not sure what qualifies as ugly - maybe a print I saw recently with Mexican dancing girls. Then again some clever young thing would turn it into a cute retro frock!

  2. As Gail said, I don't mind it either. I can't wait to see you in it, with the jacket, and find out if you will wear it!

  3. Hmmm....I think the fabric's not ugly, just somewhat....bold ;-) I think you've done a great job with it, though. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  4. It's not ugly per se IMO (and I like ethnic fabrics like in general), but the colors are not balanced and the print kinda overtakes everything, so I think it's definitely a challenge to work with. This ugly fabric competition is really intriguing, as it also challenges our definition of what ugly is. Although I'm pretty aesthetically picky, it's actually very seldom that I see a fabric that I would label "ugly".

  5. ive been meaning to comment that I do like the fabric, I know about the odd combinations of colors, but I would take advantage of that by teaming it with many and would not use so much of the "black" one.
I have to say also that I do like the other "ugly" one you chose : )I can see that it would be hard to wear, but nice colors!
you are doing some cool stuff and Im in awe at your atention to detail! go you!

  6. I personally think this is a better choice for the competition. Mostly because you did such a good job on the other skirt of making the most of the fabric! This fabric isn't to my taste, but your pattern choice for it is spot on, and I suspect that when you make the jacket (yummy sounding fabric for that!) and do a photoshoot I'm going to want it :-)

  9. No. I can honestly say that I really do not like that fabric. I think it's perfect for the ugly fabric contest for that very reason. I think what you've made with it is pretty cool though!

  10. If I had seen that fabric solely on a bolt, I would have agreed with your initial ruling about the fabric. However, I actually really love the skirt! It's great!

  11. I LOVE that fabric! It reminds me of the Pendleton for Opening Ceremony collaboration for some reason. It's actually quite "of the moment."
