Pillows

In terms of loving generous sewing for others I score pretty low. I don't make anything for my son, and charge my husband to take up his trousers (in child free time, the best kind of payment).

So I'll keep this brief: I made these for a friend for her birthday because I knew she'd love the print - it's original 1950's linen from the deceased estate sale that I made you all envious about. Want to hear more to be envious about? 6 metres for $5. I split the fabric with my sister though, because she also loved it.

The pillows are very simple - piping on the outside, one grey the other red/black, invisible zipper on the back.

You have got to love the speed of a craft project don't you? I made these in 2 afternoons while I supervised my son on some highly educational computer programs. Not even evil TV babysitting! Smugger and smugger!

  1. Pillow sewing is indeed smug sewing. It is just one of those things that you do because you can and it doesn't cost much.

The print on these is seriously groovy though. Your friend will love you for it.

  3. Agree, seriously groovy is the only apt description for that fabric! And your bomber jacket in the previous post, am seriously envious about that one. Would steal it off your clothes line if I lived next door... mwahaha. Your son chose well!

btw, thank you so much for your kind words. They did mean a lot to me, and I get what you mean about cultural differences making for possible insults in an intentionally innocent remark, so I too am wary of causing offence in my internet comments. But I think us Aussies and Kiwis have a similar sense of humour. I find your blog posts a delight to read.

  5. You are giving my vintage envy - is that really vintage barkcloth? As for that fantastic fabric you found at Nicks - brilliant. That is the coolest bomber jacket this side of the 1980's. I think I saw that fabric in pink at global and could only think "bubble skirt".

  6. Come on, home dec is soul destroying. You are covering up serious sewing kindness and generosity here with this self depreciating, albiet smug talk. Is that piping? Even worse. They are beautiful cushions and I expect that your friend loves them.
Please buy some expensive fabric soon.
I would like to point out that taking up trousers is not sewing. It is clearly "mending and alteration", a completely different and much nastier category of activity. At my house this is hired out at a 3x brownie points value when compared to actual construction.

  8. Wow they look so cool - it only reinforces my smug delight that you gave me some of that fabric for myself. I hope I don't mess it up by making something hideous or all your commenters will have my guts for garters.

  9. Gorgeous! Don't make too many of these or you'll have people knocking on your door wanting one.
