It's as easy as 1-2-3 with an Ottobre tee

December 1 rolled around and I did not start sewing a coat. I'm cured!

I did however, like the idea of sewing the ruffle crazy tee in a plain colour so that the ruffles just add texture. I went out and bought some fabric, and while I was laundering it ready for sewing I decided to have a go at another Ottobre tee, using up this knit that had been loitering in my ahem *stash* - you know I hate having stash but these days my purchasing has been outdoing my speed in making things up and unfortunately there has been some accumulation.

It's hard to see from the photo, but the fabric is a pale blue grey with white polka dots. Cute!

One day I'm going to surprise you all by doing hair and make up. Next time I hope to surprise you with a bottom to match the top. Baby styling steps people, baby styling steps.

I used the famous Ottobre 02-2007-04 tee, this was best pattern on Pattern Review some years back. I sewed a 40 back, neck shoulders grading out to a 42 at the side, and a FBA which I pivoted out into the gathers at the front and side of the tee. This means my tee has more front gathers than most, but they are such a charming feature I consider it a bonus. Although technically a little tight through the bust I am much happier with the fit overall with this tee.

Now I am sure you have noticed I've been playing around with my blog template again. It features coffee beans, who could resist?

  1. Nice coffee beans, and the sewing is also beautiful as always. Now I hope this isn't too personal a question for your blog, but do you ever get sick of sewing? I haven't sewed anything (apart from a poorly and hastily made school show costume) for about 2 months, and I'm still sick of it. I think it's been a long time since I was truly happy with sewn item, and my brain's reward centres are screaming "don't go there! there's no happiness in it!".

  2. Hmm well yes I do get sick of sewing as a matter of fact. But then I stop doing it and start it again when I feel like it. That usually doesn't take any longer than 2 days. Usually I have the opposite problem - more desire to sew than time to do it in.

  3. Top is very cute and quite clearly not a coat. I wouldn't call 2 days sick of something, more of a pause.

  4. Sew that pattern up a few more times mixing sleeves (or - skip the sleeves!) and necklines and your summer wardrobe is DONE! Well, maybe a few pairs of shorts and a skirt or two...

  6. You know, if we wanted hair and makeup and matching bottoms (and bones sticking out, while you're at it) we'd be looking at Burda models. The really good part of sewing blogs imho is precisely that you get to see what the effect is on real people. Works best for me, at least :-).

I like the coffee beans, and the t-shirt. Of course more front gathers are just fine, they're the point here! Oh, and yes to the coffee beans.

  7. Love the coffee beans. I couldn't live much less be a parent without coffee every day. and twice a day on the weekends. ;) The top is cute. Now you should make a coffee bean top. Hahaha!

  8. I too love the coffee beans. They would make an awesome print for a dress, don't you think?

Top looks great, I like the extra gathers at front, they look just right.
