Pussy bow blouse

It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you have a full bust you generally do not want to be drawing attention to it. However, there is another truth that says that pussy bow blouses are simply adorable and no matter what the state of your decollete you will want to make yourself one, especially one as easy as New look 6831.

The bow:

The buttons - clear, thought it best to keep it simple as I think you'll agree there is an AWFUL lot going on.

The back:

This blouse is fitted and cap sleeved, made of vintage fabric and buttons. I'm not sure what type of fabric it is but it feels like a cotton/wool blend of the Viyella persuasion. It is super comfy and super fun.

Toned down a little with a plain cardy and a dorky smile:

  1. Love the fabric, love the sleeve, love the fit, perhaps the cardi lowers the volume a bit on the bow! You have a great capacity to have fun with clothes MA.

  2. Pretty! Fun! (Want it). I'm not sure that the cardy tones it down though, because in the photo it's almost easier to see the bow when part of it sits outside the cardy. (The lovely colour of the cardy doesn't hurt either.)

I've never been sure about pussy bows but being now well deflated in the bustal region (thanks kids!) maybe I need the boost. Something like that would look so great with my flippy skirt....

  3. Cute top - I hadn't noticed that pattern before but it is really cute, especially in that fabric - pussy bows, ruffles there is a lot of girly-something in the air!

  4. oh yeah, lovin' that bow. I've been feeling a bit 'blah' lately, i need to sew myself some new things and that top would be a great start.

  5. I have a theory - which I hope is right (being a fellow BBG) - that provided the bow sits on the bustline and not at the neck it has a minimising effect. God I hate it when I sound like a fashionista.

  6. First of all, I have never heard the term 'pussy bow' and I will add that to the mental collection of phrases I must learn more about. I adore this blouse. The print is cute and the style is cuter. I am going to get this pattern because it is perfect and and at least three fabrics from my stash would look great made up in this. I don't know about the bust reducing or enlarging properties because I can't get past the pussy bow thing, but I do know it looks terrific on you. I agree about the clear buttons, they are a great choice. I like the cardi, too. I've been seeing a lot of teal lately, so it must be the colour of the season.

  7. That's a very pretty top. I like the combination of the pretty top with the jeans.

  8. That is a very cute top. I like the print too. When not viewed close up it doesn't look like it needs to be toned down at all. Nor does the bow need to be toned down. Looks great!

  9. Very cute!! The fabric has a sort of Liberty feel to it. So chic! Did you raise the neckline a bit? It looks so low on the line drawing of the pattern, but yours looks just right.

  10. Very cute top! Love that fabric. I don't think I've ever heard of that kind of fabric before. Does it feel knit like?

  11. Totally cute blouse! In recent years, I haven't paid much attention to NewLook, but I must start taking another look!

  12. Oooh! I have that pattern and keep thinking I'll make it up sometime because it looks very simple. Now that I see your version I must.make.it.soon!

I hadn't heard of "pussy bow" either. :)

  14. hi Katie - No I did not raise the neckline but I'm wearing a cami top underneath, - the bow is set above the front joining seam so it makes it a bit more modest. I thought about raising it, but then I wondered where the bow would fall .. probably a bit too high. So it's a bit of a juggling act, I guess.

  15. I think rules about bows (and ruffles) are just dull and made to be ignored. The blouse is gorgeous, and looks perfect with the print. I love how you have made it look casual and chic rather than dressed up for the office by pairing it with jeans.

  19. I would love to see this on you but I fear our Dunedin climate will be too cold. You will have to wear your merino instead.

  20. I popped 'the coffee set' in to Marg's today in case you were able to carry it home as hand luggage. It's in a photocopy paper box to give you an idea of size but could be packed smaller and better. I didn't have much bubble wrap.Enjoy.
