Decisions, decisions.

The front : full length, collar closed as per original pattern

or : the back, mid hip length

Or : worn open at the neck to form a revere with contrasting facing, full length and faux, yes faux, pocket

I'm in the final stages (throes) of this Chanel jacket. Every stage has required a number of decisions because I stated with a jacket that was too small and had to make it bigger. Cut from here, steal from there, follow this or that design decision? Every part of the construction has had to be thought through very carefully.

And now it's the final finishing touches - the hem length - mid hip or full hip? Faux pocket or no? Worn closed as the pattern intended or open in a revere style? And the most important question of all, what do I need to do to make sure I will wear it?

I could smirk it up and wear it with a kerchief (you know, the style that got Joe eliminated from last season's Project Runway) and a faux military badge from Exclusive Buttons (which I won in my craft haul, on the back of the label it reads, "awarded to domestic warriors for their service and commitment on the home front").

Advice desired. Must wear this jacket or TMB will never let me forget it. "You cut up my jacket for this? At least I wore it twice."

And then I will finish it and blog about it over here.

  1. Wow it looks wonderful. I have been quietly checking in waiting to see the next step. Black trim has worked very well. We did laugh at the photo of theclown, no offence intended towards the unwilling donor. I'm sure he didn't look like that on either of its two outings. Collar looks good as originally intended, no surprise. Like the accessories. And while I'm here the trousers are really great too. If you ever get sick of them can I bags them?

  2. Hmmm...I see your conundrum. Either way looks good, I reckon, but for some reason I'm leaning towards the slightly more relaxed open-collar version.
It looks very styley, whichever way you slice it.

  3. I don't know how to solve the decisions but I just love that jacket.

    wv: hemin!

  4. Not sure about open or closed, but which length feels better? How does it look on you with jeans/ slacks? On the form I am liking full length a little more.

  5. Ah, decisions. I don't have much to offer, but I do enjoy reading about your progress. As for length, maybe you need to put it on with the clothes you will wear it with to decide. Lengths that look good with skirts can be different to the lengths that look good with pants.

  6. on your dressform the longer length looks great. I like the closed collar look the best. I guess it depends on how it will work with what you've got in your wardrobe already.

  7. Oh well I like open neck better, but they both look very nice. Been a fun weekend with Marg and Rosie here, they've even joined in on a trip to the dreaded chipmunks! What good sports.

  8. Looks like I'm bucking the trend, but I like the shorter length better. Not sure about open or closed, but I like the accessories on it a lot.

If all else fails, wear it for doing housework while TMB is watching. Just so he knows you love it THAT MUCH.

  9. Gosh I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't even found my fabric yet for the Chanel. Your jacket is looking very worthy of the great Coco.

  10. Like Miri I have been keeping an eye on this jacket. It looks great.

I can see there might have to be negotiations over your cast offs.

Have a great day. Hope playcentre is going well.

  11. I've been surfing on-line greater than 3 hours today, yet I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It is lovely value sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the net might be much more useful than ever before.
